Keynote Speaker Highlights

Sunday, October 12: STEPHEN RITZ
Founder of the Green Bronx Machine, Emmy Award–winning educator, and White House presenter, Stephen has revolutionized classrooms through hydroponics and urban agriculture. His keynote will highlight the power of sustainability, student engagement, and real-world STEM learning.

Monday, October 13: ANDREW KUHN
Host of the ChangeED podcast, Andrew started his career as a middle school educator. To now he uses his own voice to discuss STEM education, PA STEELS Standards, and other important and relative educational topics on the popular ChangeED podcast. Join him for a forward-thinking keynote packed with practical classroom takeaways.

 

Pre-Conference Events

Saturday, October 11

  • Constellation and mythology, Planetarium Yahn Penn State Behrend. Show will be 6:30-7:30 PM. Shuttle service will be provided to the Yahn Planetarium.

Sunday, October 12

  • “STEM is Stern” Sail Ride: Sailboat Experience on the Erie Bay, Sponsored by National Inventors Hall of Fame
    Climb aboard the historic Lettie G. Howard (1893 fishing schooner) for a STEM-focused sailing adventure. Learn the science of sailing and engineering in action!
    Two time slots: 10:30–11:30 AM or 5:30–6:30 PM Once you purchase your ticket, a PSTA board member will reach out to confirm your preferred sail time.
  • Erie Grow Project – Aquaponics INTAG Farm Tour
    Explore the future of sustainable agriculture at the Grow Erie Aquaponics Facility and community greenhouse. Fish and plants living in perfect harmony—sounds like science class goals!
    Tours run 10:00–12:00 PM on Sunday, October 12th Shuttle service will be provided. Once purchased, a PSTA board member will reach out to confirm your tour time.

Monday, October 13 Morning Field Trips – Free on-site experiences – no ticket needed. These two sessions will be first come first served opportunities during the conference!

  • Erie Maritime Museum – Dive into Lake Erie’s rich maritime history and explore resources aligned with STEELS.
  • CLEER: Center for Lake Erie Education and Research– Discover classroom-ready programming in freshwater ecology and environmental science.
