As our culture shifts, it has generally become easier for LGBTQ+ people to come out and openly engage with the world as LGBTQ+, especially for younger people. This means that educators are increasingly coming into contact with students and families that don't follow "traditional" family structures and gender roles. In this workshop, Sam and Alex will share resources on classroom management, communication, and curriculum that you can use to help create a climate that supports your LGBTQ+ students and families -- whether they are out to you or not. You'll see examples of how science education can be a welcoming place through your lessons and the way you engage with your school community and learn how to navigate conversations around gender, sexuality, and family.
