Assess to Progress: Summative, Formative & Feedback in STEELS
Presented by Paul Andersen from Bozeman Science
The STEELS represent the biggest shift in science teaching in decades — and that shift only reaches students if our assessments ask for all three dimensions. Join Paul Andersen this December for a hands-on workshop where you'll screen exemplary performance assessments, build your own formative tasks, and practice giving actionable feedback with single-point rubrics. You'll leave with a system for using assessment to drive learning, not just measure it.
One workshop, two experiences — elementary and secondary, your choice.
Elementary | Tuesday December 1
Secondary | Wednesday December 2

Help make this milestone unforgettable by leading a session—submit your proposal today!
Keep in mind the following guidelines when considering what to submit:
Speaking submissions do not need to be finalized presentations; however an outline of your topics will be required when submitting your proposals.
You can submit more than one proposal — fill out the form as many times as you need.
Solo, dual, and panel presentations are all welcome. If you would like to bring students to assist, they are welcome.
Sessions will be 45 minutes long.

We hope your summer is going super well!
Sorry to interrupt but our presenters seem to be more focused on USA 250 than submitting for PSTA’s 75th. If you are planning to present, we are giving you a little more time to collect your ideas together. Please send suggestions for speakers our way as well.
All submissions due by July 15th 2026!
The 2026 Pennsylvania Science Teachers Association Conference invites you to honor a rich legacy of tradition while embracing new ideas, fresh perspectives, and innovation!
Rather than reinventing the wheel, we’re seeking proposals that showcase established resources, instructional tools, and proven approaches to STEELS-aligned instruction. Whether you’re anticipating your first teaching anniversary or counting the milestones, your insights can help others bring STEELS to life with confidence.
Help build our foundation—submit your proposal today!
